TEA Meets to Discuss Revoking Prime Prep's Charter

Prime Prep Academy, the school co-founded by former NFL cornerback Deion Sanders, will lose its charter Tuesday.

The school board's Monday meeting to discuss dissolving the school's charter adjourned because of an absence of quorum — not enough people present. The Texas Education Agency is expected to revoke the charter at a meeting later Tuesday.

The TEA will also inspect the school's finances. If the school doesn't have enough money to keep running, they will close it midsemester.

"Given the numerous challenges facing the institution, I am hopeful that the TEA and today's vote by the Board will enable the school to remain open through the end of the year," Sanders posted on Facebook Monday.

When Prime Prep Academy opened in 2012, the goal was to make it a college prep school that would be competitive in athletics, but the school never achieved academic success.
