Students Kick Off Souper Bowl of Caring

The Souper Bowl of Caring campaign kicked off in North Texas at Lamar High School in Arlington Friday morning.

Students from Nichols Junior High School organized the annual event that coincides with the Super Bowl to collect money and food for organizations that help those in need.

"Just a little bit of help can make a difference in someone's life," Nichols Junior High student Johny Garfio said. "Maybe they aren't getting fed and are hungry."

Since 2008, North Texans have collected more than $8 million in cash and food items.

To help, simply visit one of four participating grocery store chains: Kroger, Albertsons, Tom Thumb and Market Street. Each store will have prepackaged food you can buy and donate. They accept monetary donations as well.

"A lot of people get excited for their Super Bowl team, and they are rooting for their team and they are buying a lot for their parties, but Souper Bowl of Caring brings awareness to the community and let them know people are struggling in their area," said Souper Bowl of Caring President and CEO Clara Cooper.

The Souper Bowl of Caring event ends Feb. 1. All donations made in North Texas will stay local and help local organizations.
