Statement by Honda Regarding IIHS Testing of the 2014 Honda Pilot

American Honda leads the industry in third party crash test ratings with more vehicles rated TOP SAFETY PICK and TOP SAFETY PICK+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) than any other manufacturer, including the most vehicles that earn a "Good" rating in the IIHS small overlap front test.

With each new model introduction starting with the 2013 Accord, Civic and Odyssey, Honda has applied body structure changes to our vehicles to target a TOP SAFETY PICK or TOP SAFETY PICK+ designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), with a “Good” rating in all test modes including the rigorous small overlap front crash test. We also target each new model introduction to earn the highest possible 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Every new generation of the Honda Pilot has helped lead the light truck segment with a wide range of standard safety and driver assistive technologies and we are committed that it will continue to do so in the future.

In addition to incorporating our Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure in the 2014 Pilot, Honda has provided the following safety and driver assistive technologies as standard safety features on all Pilot
models: rearview cameras; Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) with traction control; an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS); side curtain airbags; dual-stage, multiple-threshold front airbags; and front side airbags.
Utilizing the same body structure as the 2014 Pilot, the 2013 Honda Pilot was rated an IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK and according to IIHS, 2013 TOP SAFETY PICK designees like the Pilot “continue to offer a high level of protection in four main crash types — moderate overlap front, side, rollover and rear (IIHS Status Report Vol. 48, No. 9 released on 12/19/13).” The safety of our customers is of great importance to Honda, and with each successive new model we will continue to enhance the safety of our customers and others on the road.
