Sonic Boom Shakes North Tarrant County

The reports from north Fort Worth north to Ponder came in around 2 p.m.

Some residents in north Tarrant County reported hearing a loud boom and feeling their homes shake Tuesday afternoon.

NBC 5 learned from the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth the reports at around 2 p.m. were indeed a sonic boom caused during field testing of F-16's fighter jets.

Reports of sonic booms came from North Fort Worth, Saginaw and Haslet and on up north to Roanoke, Justin and Ponder.

On NBC 5's Facebook page residents described hearing what sounded like an explosion and feeling their home shake.

An official at the base said the jets may break the sound barrier from time to time as part of the military exercises
