One of the soldiers wounded when a gunman opened fire at a Texas Army base in April is returning to his western New York hometown.
Maj. Patrick Miller will be back in Allegany this weekend, when he'll be the grand marshal in an annual firefighters' parade on Saturday.
It will be Miller's first visit to the Cattaraugus County village since he was wounded April 2 in the mass shooting at Fort Hood that claimed the lives of three soldiers and wounded 16 others. The soldier who fired at his fellow troops committed suicide.
Miller, a member of medical brigade, was credited with keeping others safe from the gunman despite being shot in the abdomen.
Miller is a 2003 graduate of his hometown college, St. Bonaventure University. He's being transferred next month to Fort Leavenworth in Kansas.
