Rockwall Housing Exec Gets Prison in Theft Case

An ex-public housing official for a Dallas-area city must serve a year and a day in prison for using government money in a scam involving drugs and hotel stays.

A federal judge in Dallas on Wednesday sentenced 37-year-old Jennifer Tyson of Rockwall.

Tyson formerly managed the Rockwall Housing Development Corporation, which operates a 36-apartment complex called the Meadows. She pleaded guilty in December to conspiracy to commit theft concerning programs receiving federal funds.

Tyson must also repay more than $195,000.

Prosecutors say Tyson since 2009 wrote thousands of dollars in government checks to a man doing minor jobs at the complex. She also wrote government checks for cash or reimbursement, plus paid for hotel rooms for the man and his girlfriend while some of the money went for drugs.
