Red Oak Gas Line Break Leads to Voluntary Evacuations

Atmos Energy crews are working to repair a gas line break in Red Oak that has led to some voluntary evacuations.

The 2-inch gas line break was reported along the 100 block of Dunn Street shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday.

The cause of the break has not been confirmed.

The Red Oak Police Department has shut down Texas 342 between Red Oak Road and Pierce Road as well as the 100 block of Dunn Street.

Several homeowners who live near the break have voluntarily evacuated their residences until the break is repaired.

Red Oak Elementary School was placed on lockdown for a short time until the gas dissipated near the school.  That lockdown was lifted at about 1:30 p.m.

Atmos Energy crews are onsite, working to shut off the gas and repair the line and estimate a two hour repair window.
