Mesquite police arrested the treasurer for the well known Tarrant/Dallas County Charity Toy Run.
According to a department press release, 45-year-old Todd Lynn McEvoy is accused of making $71,000 in unauthorized personal purchases between October 2012 and December 2013.
McEvoy was arrested on a second degree felony theft warrant. As of Saturday evening, he remains in the Mesquite jail.
Officers said they began investigating after charity board members said they noticed inconsistencies with the organization's finances.
The annual event organizes thousands of motorcyclists from Dallas and Fort Worth to meet in the heart of the metroplex and donate toys or money to buy toys for disadvantaged children.
In 2009, NBC DFW spoke to McEvoy during the Toy Run.
"We work real hard putting this thing together to make sure that the kids that would not normally have a Christmas will have a Christmas," said Todd McEvoy, volunteer.
