Parole Board Member Indicted for False Reports

A Huntsville-based commissioner with the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles has been indicted for falsely reporting that inmates refused to show up for their parole board interviews.

Pamela Freeman, who has worked for the parole board since 2004, is charged with tampering with government records, a third-degree felony. She's one of 14 commissioners around the state.

A Walker County prosecutor, Stephanie Stroud, said evidence shows five inmates are affected by her reports that they refused April interviews when they did not. She said the reported refusals could influence decisions on whether the prisoners should be released.

Freeman's attorney, Craig Washington, told the Houston Chronicle the basis for the indictment is false.

Freeman was placed on leave. If convicted, she could serve up to 10 years in prison.
