Nissan Expands Air Bag Recall After Louisiana Injury

A Louisiana woman's injury from an exploding air bag has led to Nissan adding 45,000 cars to a previous recall.

The recall expansion covers Sentra compact cars from the 2004 through 2006 model years in high-humidity states mainly along the U.S. Gulf Coast.

Nissan spokesman Steve Yaeger says the cars were added when Nissan found out about the March injury while analyzing field data.

Lawyers for 20-year-old Sabra Wilson are suing Nissan and air bag maker Takata Corp. Her lawyers say she was in a minor crash near New Orleans while driving her 2006 Sentra when the passenger air bag exploded and spewed metal shrapnel. She suffered cuts and burns as well as hearing impairment.

Yaeger says Nissan moved quickly once it found out about the injury.
