Mom Takes Search for Missing Son to Nation's Capitol

Woman's son is believed buried in runs of hotel in Port-au-Prince

A Fort Worth mother wants her son home from Haiti, dead or alive.

Sally Baldwin is traveling to Washington, D.C. to personally tell that to legislators.

Her son, Brendan Beck, a 35-year-old civil engineer, is among 17 U.S. citizens believed to be buried among the ruins of Hotel Montana.

Beck was spending the night at the hotel in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, during an airport layover when the massive earthquake devastated the island.

“I couldn't live with myself if I didn't feel like I had done everything in my power to bring my son home,” Baldwin said.

She flew to Washington, D.C., Monday in her search for answers.

Baldwin said she has been unable to get information from the U.S. government. She has set up appointments with several Texas legislators.

”I think if you’re there, they know you are really serious, and they can feel what you are feeling," she said.

When asked what she is feeling, Baldwin said, “I think your body has a mechanism to shut down. If you allowed yourself to feel it, I don’t know how I would survive.”

Baldwin is scheduled to spend two days in Washington but will extend her trip if she has any success in the search for her son.
