A man who fatally beat a Fort Worth-area pastor tried to prevent officers from entering the church and continued the attack -- despite being ordered at gunpoint to stop.

That's according to a police report obtained by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

The Rev. Danny Kirk Sr. died Oct. 29 after being beaten with an electric guitar at Greater Sweethome Missionary Baptist Church in Forest Hill. Police say Derrick Birdow drove his car into a church wall before the attack.

The police report says an officer used a stun gun to stop Birdow. The report says the officer had to use the stun gun two or three more times before Birdow could be handcuffed.

Birdow was found unresponsive in a patrol car and later was pronounced dead.
