Justice on Hold in Texas Rape Case

Fugitive among 20 charged in assault

Justice is on hold for a young Texas girl as one of her abusers remains a fugitive after being convicted and sentenced to 99 years in prison for sexually assaulting her during a series of attacks in 2010.

Eric McGowen was convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child and later sentenced Thursday.

But the 20-year-old, who had been free on bail, was not hauled off to prison after the jury's verdicts as he had fled the courthouse in Liberty during a break in testimony Wednesday. He remains on the run.

McGowen's fugitive status has upset the girl's mother.

Prosecutors say he was among 20 men and boys who took part in sexually assaulting the girl on at least five occasions in late 2010, when she was 11.
