Jury in Louisiana Convicts Mexican Businessman of Trying to Bribe Judge

Businessman Tries to Bribe Texas Judge in Drug Case

A Louisiana jury has convicted a Mexican businessman of trying to bribe a judge in Texas to get a lesser sentence in a drug case.

Francisco Colorado Cessa was convicted Thursday of bribery and conspiracy to bribe a public official in a federal retrial in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Colorado faces up to 40 years in prison for helping drug lords launder money through horse racing in Texas and Oklahoma.

Colorado in 2013 was convicted in Texas of conspiracy to commit money laundering. He later pleaded guilty to trying to bribe a judge in Austin, who was unaware of the attempt and sentenced Colorado to 20 years.

Both convictions were overturned.

Colorado last month was convicted again in Texas for conspiracy to commit money laundering and his bribery retrial moved to Louisiana.
