Officers responded to a shooting call in the 3900 block of Julius Schepps Freeway at about 12:15 a.m. and found the victim, 46-year-old Troy Dunnavant, who had been shot.

After investigating, detectives said 44-year-old Donnell Sledge shot Dunnavant in the upper torso during a disagreement in the 3000 block of Holmes Street.

A witness saw Dunnavant and tried to drive him to a hospital, according to police. The witness then saw a Dallas County sheriff's deputy on Interstate 45 near Interstate 30 and stopped for help. The deputy called for an ambulance and Dallas Fire-Rescue responders pronounced the victim deceased.

Police said they arrested Sledge Tuesday morning and charged him with murder.
