Garland Officer Helps Rescue Kia the Kitten

While on duty last week, motorcycle officer R.P. Clark watched as a pickup truck suddenly stopped in the road near Plano Road and Walnut Street to let a kitten cross the road, police say.

But the kitten had other ideas and instead climbed onto the back tire of an SUV that stopped behind the pickup.

Clark managed to flag down the driver of the SUV to prevent him from driving away and potentially harming the animal.

After several attempts by the officer and the driver of the SUV to get the kitten to come out, the driver of the SUV slowly pulled the vehicle over to a more secure location.

According to the police department, both the officer and driver determined the kitten had actually climbed up onto the gas tank and out of reach. So the pair worked to safely lower the gas tank and the kitten was pulled out by an employee of a nearby bank who had gathered, with several others, to watch the rescue.

The bank employee decided she wanted to adopt the kitten, but Clark had one request -- to name the cat Kia after the SUV from which it was rescued.

When no one else claimed the kitten, the bank employee took Kia home.
