Frisco police plan to have more traffic enforcement over the next year.
The department has received a $156,000 STEP (State Trade and Export Promotion) grant from the Texas Department of Transportation that will pay for extra officers and equipment.
The grant money focuses on targeting DUIs, speed enforcement, child safety and seat belt enforcement.
“It’s not about numbers and it’s not about quotas,” said Chad LaPrelle, with the Frisco Police Department. “It’s about us reaching the community.”
Drivers in Frisco can expect to see extra officers enforcing speed laws in six targeted, high traffic areas, including:
- Legacy Drive from SH 121 to Panther Creek Parkway
- Preston Road from SH 121 to US 380
- Dallas Parkway from SH 121 to US 380
- Main Street/FM 3537 from Custer Road to FM 423
- Eldorado Parkway from Custer Road to FM 423
- Lebanon Road from Coit Road to FM 423
LaPrelle said those six areas are ones that have caused “issues,” specifically crashes, in the past.
