Fort Worth PD Arrest Man Who Confessed to Starting a Fire at a Wal-Mart

Fort Worth police say they have arrested Gilberto Hernandez for arson at a Wal-Mart SuperCenter on Avondale-Haslet Road on July 3.

Hernandez, 36, was seen on surveillance tapes leaving the scene, according to police reports.

Police say Hernandez has since confessed, allegedly telling investigators he intended to take cash from registers while using the fire as a distraction. That fire reportedly caused over $50,000 in damages to merchandise.

The store was closed for the day due to smoke and water damage; estimates on restoration costs and sales losses are still being tallied.

Hernandez is currently being held on a $50,000 bond.

This story will continue to be updated as more details are released.
