Fort Hood Doctors Expect “No More Fatalities”

Three military personnel remain in critical condition following a mass shooting at Fort Hood that killed three people and injured 16.

During a Thursday morning news conference, doctors and staff at Baylor Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple said they "don't expect any more fatalities."

Dr. Matthew Davis, trauma director for the hospital, said all three patients in critical condition as of 11 a.m. Thursday were on ventilators and suffered injuries to the neck, chest, spine, abdominal areas and or other extremities.

All the patients are military personnel, ranging in age from their 20s to 40s. Eight of the patients are male. One is female.

The other patients still listed at the hospital are in fair or good condition, according to doctors at the hospital, who upgraded conditions for many of the victims Thursday morning.

Two of the patients were listed in fair condition. Four others were listed in good condition. Davis said some of those in good condition may be discharged from the hospital later in the day.

Officials did not release the names of any of the victims, but said they have been able to contact family members for all the victims.

Fort Hood officials did not immediately provide details on the additional seven people who were shot or otherwise hurt during the rampage. An Iraq War veteran being treated for mental illness killed himself after being confronted by a military policewoman, officials said.

Fort Hood chaplains have set up family counseling centers. Hospital counselors said they are assisting patients and their families.
