The Dallas County district attorney’s office has lost access to federal forfeiture fund assets, and the U.S. Department of Justice is conducting a rare, in-person audit of the fund because of accounting discrepancies over how the money in it was spent, The Dallas Morning News has learned.
Peter Carr, a Justice Department spokesman in Washington, confirmed the federal investigation Thursday via email and said that “the Dallas DA is currently a noncompliant participant” and has not received government funds since August.
