State Trooper are investigating how a fatal wrong way crash on the Sam Rayburn Tollway Wednesday morning happened. The driver passed warning signs and ignored officers trying to stop her before she crashed into an oncoming car.

Allen police say a wrong-way driver on the Sam Rayburn Tollway was killed in a crash that closed northbound lanes of the toll road early Wednesday morning.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, officers spotted a Honda Accord traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of the toll road at about 3:17 a.m.

Officers called for units ahead of the vehicle to intercept it. But the driver exited at entry ramps, drove in the wrong direction on the service roads and then re-entered the toll road on the exits.

Before officers could intercept the vehicle south of Legacy Drive in Plano, the Accord slammed head-on into a Ford F-150 pickup truck. The impact pinned the wrong-way driver inside her Accord.
