A longtime El Paso high school baseball coach convicted of cocaine possession has been sentenced to five years' probation.
Judge Dianne Navarrete sentenced 65-year-old Michael Beltran Sr. to the probation and 200 hours of community service Thursday. The terms of probation include drug offender education classes and drug testing.
A jury found Beltran guilty of third-degree felony possession of less than two grams of cocaine Wednesday.
Prosecutors say Beltran was coaching at Cathedral High School in 2012 when he was arrested for buying cocaine from an informant.
Beltran took the stand in his own defense Wednesday, saying he was set up and never bought cocaine.
Beltran was inducted into the El Paso Baseball Hall of Fame in 1991 and in 2007 into the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame.
