Brothers and sisters in blue gathered Wednesday as the Dallas Police Department honored fallen officers with a special memorial ceremony.
The names of 84 police officers who have been killed in the line of duty were read aloud, including the four Dallas police officers and one DART police officer who were fatally shot in the July 7, 2016, ambush in downtown Dallas.
The annual memorial event was held amid National Police Week and began with a march along Young Street to the Dallas Police Memorial.
Carlos Zamarripa, brother of Dallas Police Officer Patrick Zamarripa, who died in the July 7 shooting, said Wednesday's ceremony was bittersweet.
"I don't know how to explain it. It's filled with so many emotions. We're honored and blessed with the outpouring of love and support from not only Dallas but surrounding counties and all around the nation," he said.
The ceremony also included a performance by the Dallas Police Choir, a 21-gun salute and a fly over.
