DPS Wants Texts from Anonymous Tipsters

Rewards increased to $5,000

Know a fugitive who needs to go to jail?  The Texas Department of Public Safety is now accepting anonymous tips through text messaging.

"This will help the program appeal to a younger demographic, generate additional tips, and simply make it more convenient for many people," said DPS Director Steven McCraw. "In addition, rewards were recently increased to $5,000 per fugitive. We need the public’s help to put these criminals back behind bars."

To send a tip, text the tip to 274637, or CRIMES.  Since anonymity is protected, the system will not show your number to the DPS.  Even though tipsters remain anonymous, the DPS says they can are still eligible for a reward. (So don't tell them your name in your text or phone call).

Tips submitted via e-mail, through the DPS website, will also be accepted. The DPS Crime Stoppers phone line, 1-800-252-TIPS, remains available for calls to provide information.
