Country Singer Chris Cagle Arrested for DWI

Country singer Chris Cagle was arrested in Texas over the weekend on a drunken-driving charge.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said Cagle was arrested early Sunday near Greenville, about 50 miles northeast of Dallas. The agency said the 45-year-old entertainer, who lives in Marietta, Okla., was pulled over after running a red light.

Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks said Tuesday that Cagle was under the influence of alcohol and was taken into custody after failing a field sobriety test. He was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated, Meeks said.

The sheriff's office said Cagle was released later Sunday on $3,000 bond. There was no information on an attorney for Cagle. A message to a booking and management agency representing Cagle wasn't returned Tuesday.

The penalty for Class B misdemeanor DWI can include a fine of up to $2,000 and up to six months in jail.

Cagle's 2002 single "I Breathe In, I Breathe Out" reached No. 1 on Billboard's country music chart.
