Convicted Kidnapper, Murderer Escape S. Texas Prison

Jose Bustos-Diaz and Octavio Ramos Lopez.

Two Texas prison escapees from Mexico are still on the run.

Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokeswoman Michelle Lyons said the search continued Wednesday for the escaped inmates.

Jose Bustos-Diaz and Octavio Ramos Lopez turned up missing Tuesday during a routine count at the Briscoe Unit, in Frio County about 75 miles southwest of San Antonio. The pair apparently cut through a perimeter fence.

Bustos-Diaz was serving 35 years for murder in Harris County. Lopez, who was convicted in Hidalgo County, was serving 20 years for two counts of aggravated kidnapping and 12 years for possession of cocaine and possession with intent to deliver cocaine.
