Police said they responded to the InTown Suites in the 1200 block of West Trinity Mills Road after one of the women, a 19-year-old, showed up at the Carrollton Police Department overnight and said she had escaped the man.

When the SWAT team arrived Wednesday, the man, identified as 25-year-old Malcolm Hickson, exited his room with a gun in his waistband and his hands up, according to police. Officers shot Hickson when he reached for the weapon.

Hickson was transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Carrollton where police said he was pronounced deceased.

No officers were injured in the incident.

Sgt. Caleb West fired the shot at Hickson. He has been with CPD for nine years.

Department officials say West will go on leave while an investigation occurs, as is procedure.

Officers said the second woman, an 18-year-old, was also found at the motel safe.

Carrollton police mobilized the SWAT team to find Hickson Wednesday morning after having past run-ins with him and believing him to be a threat of violence.

The Carrollton Municipal Court provided a stack of warrants that had been issued in the city for Hickson ranging from misdemeanors to violent felonies.

No further details have been released.
