Candlelight Vigil for Firefighter Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash

The colleagues of a firefighter who died Sunday after a hit-and-run crash are heartbroken and they're preparing for a candlelight vigil.

Trevor Gage was riding his motorcycle in Fort Worth Saturday when police said he was hit by a person driving a black Ford F-150. Investigators said it may have been a case of road rage. Police said the truck likely has significant scrapes along the passenger side truck bed.

Hundreds of firefighters, friends and family members will meet outside the city's Rec Center Monday to remember Gage's life.

Police are investigating the deadly crash and said they need help to find the driver.

Gage would’ve been on duty Monday at the fire station. His colleagues said this loss is hitting them very hard.

They said someone out there knows who did this and they’re praying they come forward to police with a crucial tip.

Gage’s fire locker is still filled with family photos. Memories of his wife and three young children that he looked at before running out on any emergency call.

"Trevor is a great family man, he loved his kids and would do anything for anyone. Very much a servant’s heart," said Fire Chief Brian Thompson. "He was dedicated to public service, no question."

Thompson has known Gage since he was a child. He’s mourning the loss of a dedicated firefighter and a close family friend.

"He’s missed greatly. We’re a smaller department and if we miss one person that’s a big link in the chain gone," he said. "It's hitting the guys in different ways, but it's hitting all of us, definitely."

Fellow firefighters said it’s a devastating loss, but they’re also appreciative of the love from the community.

“It’s comforting to see the community outpouring. People bringing meals to us and the family, people donating on his family’s GoFundMe account, trying to help his wife and the kids,” Thompson said.

The vigil starts at 8 p.m. at the Rec Center parking lot.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Gage's family.
