Austin-Area Homeowner Convicted in Fatal Shooting

A Central Texas homeowner has been convicted of murder in the 2012 shooting of a man who ran to the property after a car wreck.

Jurors in Georgetown on Thursday consider the penalty for 49-year-old Fred Yazdi. He faces five to 99 years in prison.

The Williamson County jury on Wednesday night found Yazdi guilty in the death of 23-year-old Enrique Recio.

Lawyers said Recio, whose blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit for driving, was fleeing before dawn on Feb. 3, 2012, to avoid being charged with DWI.

The defense said Recio banged on Yazdi's door and the homeowner thought he was a burglar.

Prosecutors said Recio was shot three times -- once while climbing an iron fence and then twice after falling to the ground.
