EDITOR'S NOTE: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that Chief Theron Bowman would be tweeting pictures of drivers arrested on suspicion of drunken driving. Bowman tweeted pictures of the ride-along but was not specifically tweeting just photos of drivers who were pulled over. NBC 5 regrets the error.
The chief of the Arlington police department rode along with the DWI Task Force on Friday night -- and took Twitter users along.
Police Chief Theron Bowman tweeted messages and pictures of traffic stops and calls for service as he rode with the task force. The few photos of drivers' cars did not show the drivers' faces or the vehicles' license plate numbers.
The department said the goal of the "Tweet-along" was to show how the task force works and discourage people who hear about it from driving while intoxicated.
So far this year, nearly half of Arlington's 35 traffic fatalities have involved alcohol or drugs.
To watch what goes on, follow the Arlington Police Department on Twitter. Bowman used the hash tag #tweetalong.
