An 8-year-old boy has died in an apparent accidental shooting at a home in Houston.
Houston police homicide detective Robert Klementich said the victim and an 11-year-old boy found two unsecured firearms Thursday in one of the home's upstairs bedrooms. The two boys were tossing a pistol back and forth Thursday when it suddenly fired, striking the younger boy in the head.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said adults who were at the home had gone to a nearby store to pick up some food for the children and when they returned, the child was dead. Detectives said there were two 12-year-old girls downstairs at the time of the shooting.
Authorities said neither of the boys lived at the residence.
An investigation is ongoing.
