8 Dead in East Texas Crash

Three children killed in fiery crash

A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper says eight people, including three children, have been killed in a fiery, two-vehicle crash in East Texas.

Trooper Sylvia Jennings says an eastbound Chevrolet Malibu crossed the center line on U.S. 82 and struck a westbound 2006 Chrysler 300 driven by Sonia de la Torre of Annona. She and her 8-year-old daughter Erica, 6-year-old son Saul Jr. and 10-month-old son Eric all died.

Eric Wright and Curtis Derelle Sanders, who were in the Malibu, were killed. Two other occupants of the Malibu also died. Wright and Sanders were from Compton, Calif., and their vehicle was rented in Tulsa, Okla.

A passer-by discovered the cars in flames. Jennings said there were no witnesses.

Annona is about 150 miles northeast of Dallas.
