400 North Texas Kids to Get Free Eye Exams, Glasses

Students in Dallas, Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISDs will benefit from World Sight Day

Hundreds of North Texas children will get the benefit of good eyesight Thursday in recognition of World Sight Day.

The students, who attend elementary schools in the Dallas and Carrollton-Farmers Branch independent school districts were identified by the staff at their schools as possibly suffering from poor vision, but to date have not been able to undergo proper eye examinations.

Essilor of America, the world's largest maker of corrective lenses, will bring the kids into its location in North Dallas for eye exams and then outfit the students with free glasses.

World Sight Day an annual day of awareness held on the second Thursday of October, to focus global attention on blindness and vision impairment, according to the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness.

According to the IAPB, 285 million people are visually impaired, but 4 out of 5 cases are preventable with proper care.
