Police said an officer tried to pull over a white four-door Volkswagon for several traffic infractions at about 2 a.m., but the 14-year-old driver continued slowly. The officer used the vehicle's air horn, but the driver still did not stop.

The teens sped up when they reached the 4100 block of Hemphill Street, police said. The driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a pole in the 3000 block of Hemphill Street near West Berry Street at about 2 a.m.

MedStar spokesman Matt Zavadsky said the teen driver and 19-year-old female passenger were transported to John Peter Smith Hospital with serious injuries after the wreck.

Police said one of the teens was trapped in the car.

Police said charges are pending against the teens.
