12-Year-Old Honored for Smoke Detector Program

The city of Grand Prairie honored 12-year-old Hector Montoya on Saturday as he donates his 10,000 smoke detector to those who may have gone without.

Back in 2014, Hector was so touched by the story of a deadly house fire that he took the money he was saving to buy a PS4 and instead purchased 100 smoke detectors. He then donated the smoke detectors to the Grand Prairie Fire Department.

Hector has continued his mission over the past three years and last month donated his 10,000th smoke detector to the GPFD.

City leaders came together Saturday morning to honor Hector and thank him for all of his work.
