The driver of a day care van involved in a collision last Monday that injured 22 people, including 19 of the 20 children inside, will face charges, Grand Prairie police said.

An investigation verified that Karissa Acosta, 20, of Arlington, ran a red light while traveling westbound on Mayfield Road at the intersection of Great Southwest Parkway, police said. A northbound Chevrolet Tahoe collided with the van, causing it to overturn.

A 4-year-old boy suffered a broken leg in the wreck. All of the injured children were released from the hospital within 24 hours of the collision.

Acosta will be charged this week for injury to a child, a felony punishable by 180 days to more than two years in jail, and a fine up to $10,000, police said.

She was also cited for not having a driver's license. The owner of the day care was cited for allowing an unlicensed driver to drive.

The driver of the Tahoe that struck the van was also cited for not having a driver's license and her husband, the owner of the Tahoe, was cited for allowing an unlicensed driver to drive.
