Burleson Water Park Creates 70 Jobs

26,000-square-foot park has seven water slides

A water park opening in Burleson this weekend is adding new jobs to the area.

The Pirates Cove Fun Zone, a 26,000-square-foot park with seven water slides, brings 70 full- and part-time jobs.

"We do feel proud of that -- matter of fact, we are very happy. We think we have a good group of people, very enthusiastic," said Steve Stafford, general manager.

The park employs people ranging from 15 years old to older, including 57-year-old Donna Justice, who is retired after a career in banking.

"It is a little different," she said. "You get to work with a lot of families, kids, which I like to do. It's a lot of fun."

Justice said thinks of the water park as a fountain of youth.

"It makes us feel younger," she said. "Even though I'm aging, I still feel like I'm young at heart, but my body doesn't say that. But I love being around young people."

The North Texas Central Council of Governments recently came out with its top 10 list of cities with the largest growing populations. Burleson made the list, coming in 10th.

"The city of Burleson has been very good to us, and the growth that's happening in Burleson is definitely going to spill over for us and help us out as well," Stafford said.
