Nicki Minaj Pushes Madonna from Top of Chart

Material Mom suffers biggest second week sales drop in album chart history

This is one record Madonna probably isn't too thrilled to hold: her latest album suffered the biggest second week sales drop in chart history, according to Nielson SoundScan.

Madonna's 12th studio album, "MDNA", plunged from the No. 1 spot to No. 8 with 48,000 copies sold in its second week of release, down from an impressive initial haul of 359,000. That's an 86.7 percent drop!

"Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded", Nicki Minaj's sophomore album, sold 253,000 copies to place it atop the Billboard chart Wednesday, adding insult to injury for Madonna. Minaj performed with the pop superstar during Madonna's Super Bowl halftime show, and lends her voice to two songs on "MDNA".

Pushed from the dubious honor of holding the chart dropping title is Lady Gaga, whose 2011 album"Born This Way" had an 84 percent decline from 1.1 million copies sold in its opening week to 174,000 in week two.

Madonna's slide made room for  Adele's Grammy-winning "21" to return to the No. 2 spot, selling 153,000 copies. Now in its 59th week of release, sales of "21" has passed eight million in the United States.
