Scheppers Dealing With Ankle Sprain

The Rangers have yet to see their projected eighth-inning setup reliever make his spring debut after he was scratched from a Wednesday outing due to a sprained ankle, but don't worry, Rangers fans, it doesn't appear to be anything serious.

Scheppers' ankle sprain isn't considered the more serious high-ankle sprain, according to The Dallas Morning News, but he'll still have to wait to make his Cactus League debut. The Rangers are taking a cautious approach with Scheppers, and with good reason.

In 2013, he emerged as a dominant setup man, but racked up nearly 80 innings — an incredible total for a one-inning reliever, or really, any reliever. In 2014, he was auditioned as a starter, actually started for the Rangers on Opening Day, was terrible and then battled elbow inflammation and fatigue and was shut down.

Scheppers told reporters on Wednesday that if it were the regular season, he wouldn't miss any time with the current injury and that his ankle is not at all swollen. So that's good news.
