Rangers Still Looking For a Winning Streak

Just over a month into the season and we know a couple things about these Rangers:

*They’ve seen enough of Sonny Gray.

*They aren’t real good at handling prosperity.

The combination of the dominant A’s starter and the apparent hangover of Saturday’s thrilling, come-from-behind, extra-innings, 8-7 win produced a resounding thud Sunday in Arlington.

Off their best win of the season, the Rangers were gifted by Gray seven walks, a wild pitch and a hit batter, and managed zero runs off Oakland’s ace.

The 7-1 loss means Texas still hasn’t won a series this year, is 0-3 against Gray without scoring a single run in 23.2 innings and remains the only team in baseball without a winning streak.

That’s right. The Rangers have eight wins, but have followed each with a loss in the next game. And it’s not difficult to see how.

In their eight games following a victory, they have scored 0, 1, 4, 2, 1, 5, 1 and 1 runs for an average of 1.8 per game.

So the high of Saturday night’s rally – the first walk-off win of the season fueled by dramatic, big hits from Shin-Soo Choo and Rougned Odor – gave way Sunday to the cold reality of the Rangers.

It’s really hard to win when you don’t score more than two runs. It’s really hard to compete for a division when you can’t put together a winning streak. And it’s really hard to sniff .500 if you can’t win a series.
