Cruz Rehab Extended With Hamilton

The Texas Rangers have extended the rehabilitation assignment for outfielder Nelson Cruz.

Though the Rangers had anticipated Cruz possibly being activated from the disabled list Friday, he will instead go to Triple-A Round Rock with reigning AL MVP Josh Hamilton.

Cruz, rehabbing a strained right quadriceps muscle, was 2 for 11 in three games for Double-A Frisco this week. He took batting practice and worked out again Thursday with the RoughRiders, but didn't play Thursday night.

Hamilton finished a two-game stint as the designated hitter at Frisco by going 0 for 3 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored Thursday night. He was 2 for 4 on Wednesday with a two-run homer.

After Thursday night's game, the Rangers said Hamilton is scheduled to be the DH at Round Rock for a three-game series this weekend.

The Rangers, who open interleague play this weekend at Philadelphia, open a six-game homestand Monday night.
