The Doctor Is In: Karl Urban's Ready For ‘Star Trek 2' Shoot This Fall

Look, if there's one thing Star Trek fans are known for, it's pouring over minutiae. So we did our best to squeeze every drop of information we could out of Karl Urban about his return as Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy in the sequel to J.J. Abrams' "Trek" re-imagining.

PopcornBiz ran into the native New Zealander at Disneyland, of all places, and got a quick update on where he’ll be beaming in over the next few months.

“I've got 'Priest' coming out next week – it’s a kickass, post-apocalyptic vampire western – and then I'm going to start working on a new 'Star Trek' film towards the end of the year,” says Urban. “You know – when J.J. is ready. When he says, 'Let's come and play'.”

But Urban admits he’s the last on the list for the latest Starfleet intelligence – he claims even he doesn’t know if Abrams will be back behind he camera again. “I guess nobody knows,” he admits, adding that, while signed for two “Trek” sequels he has no idea what’s in store for Bones. “I literally do not know anything. I haven't read any of the scripts – and I'm fine with that. Yeah, just tell me when and where and I'll be there!”

“I'm just really looking forward to getting back with the guys and having fun, because we had so much fun making the first one,” says Urban. “And I have no doubt that Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman and J.J. will do their very best to make sure that they make the next one even better than the first.”

“The great thing that I love about 'Star Trek' is that it has such a dedicated fan following,” adds Urban, who’s amassed his own collection of “Trek” keepsakes over the years. “And it's certainly wonderful to be a part of something that's so well-appreciated. We all feel really blessed.”

OK, so it's not much to go on, but at least fans can enjoy Urban as the quite-literally-named Black Hat in “Priest,” opening May 13.
