Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is used to playing in front of tens of thousands of football fans and is probably used to playing on Thanksgiving day with his family cheering him on.

But this year, the two most important people in the football players life were absent.

Tony Romo's mother Joan Romo and his father Ramiro Romo.

During the broadcast on CBS on Thursday afternoon, it was revealed Romo's mother underwent back surgery on Tuesday afternoon after being involved in an auto accident.

"Tony's parents weren't even a mile away from Lambeau Field when their car was rear ended by a driver going some estimates up to 50 miles an hour," said Jim Nantz with CBS sports.

The accident happened on November 15, when his parents were heading home from the Cowboys, Packers Game.

Joan Romo suffered a fractured back.

Nantz said Romo didn't even know about the accident until the team arrived back in Dallas later that night.

He talked about it on Tuesday with CBS sports.

And asked Nantz to "pass along his Thanksgiving wishes and greetings and love to his parents back home in Wisconsin."
