Scandrick Shining On Corner Blitzes

That DeMarcus Ware is tied for the team lead in sacks for this month, with two, isn’t any surprise; what is a little surprising is who he is tied with.

Nickel cornerback Orlando Scandrick has found a good deal of success on corner blitzes, and now ranks among the sackingest defensive backs in football with 2.5 for the year--he also has a sack in each of the past two games.

Coaches say that Scandrick is particularly adept at hiding his intentions before the snap.  As nickel corner, the key for Scandrick on the corner blitz is to appear to be lining up on his man in the slot, then breaking in at the snap of the ball.

"He has a good feel for disguising it and then making a play when he does get the opportunity," interim head coach Jason Garrett said, per the Dallas Morning News.

Scandrick ranks third in sacks among quarterbacks, trailing the Kansas City Chiefs’ Javier Arenas and the New York Jets’ Drew Coleman, each of whom has three.

Bill Bates holds the franchise record for sacks in a single season by a defensive back with five.
