S Barry Church Returns

Church suffered as season-ending Achilles tear in week three of 2012

Safety Barry Church won the starting job opposite the now departed Gerald Sensabaugh out of training camp in 2012, but he made just three starts before a torn Achilles ended his season and set in motion an unfortunate, year-long theme for the Dallas defense.

But with the beginning of organized team activities this week, Church is back, and he hasn’t lost a step. At least, according to his position coach, Jerome Henderson, he hasn’t.

"With his Achilles' you worried would he come back with his same quickness, with his same burst," Henderson said, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "He looks like the same guy we saw last year before we lost him to the injury. He’s moving around extremely well, so I'm just hoping he continues on the path he’s on."

In all likelihood--if his health is as good as they say--Church will enter this year much the same way the aforementioned Sensabaugh entered last year: With ownership of one starting safety job, and waiting to see who will pull ahead and win the other spot.

"I definitely feel like the job’s mine to lose,” Church said, “And I don’t plan on losing it.”
