Shortly after reports surfaced saying that Michael Sam would join the Cowboys’ practice squad, many pointed out that Jerry Jones and co. could make a pretty penny off the signing by selling jerseys--after all, unlike every other team in the league, the Cowboys don’t share merchandise profits with the league.

But according to an ESPN Dallas report, they will not make Sam the first practice squad member to have his jersey sold in stores.

Sam, who is looking to become the first openly gay player in NFL history, arrived at Valley Ranch on Wednesday. He worked out with the team and underwent a physical before signing and getting acquainted with the local media.

Of course, as Todd Archer points out in the ESPN report, you could always go the custom jersey route--but then you run the risk that, should Sam become a member of the active roster, he’ll change his number.

Sam is currently wearing No. 46.
