Marion Barber, struggling to return from a nagging quadriceps injury, is progressing nicely, according to head coach Wade Phillips on Wednesday.

Per the Dallas Morning News, Phillips said, "I noticed again today, he's got a little more juice. It's an injury where you lose strength. It's not an injury where you're going to get injured again, but he lost a little bit of the power in that one leg.''

Barber suffered the injury late in the game against New York in week two, at the end of a long run. He missed the Carolina game, and returned against Denver in week four; however, he was noticeably affected by the injured leg against the Broncos, and he hasn't really been the same since.

After returning in week four, Barber has yet to average more than four yards a carry against any opponent; his career mark in this regard is 4.3 YPC, and, previous to suffering the injury, he was averaging 6.3.

Phillips' comments, then, are likely welcome news for Cowboys fans.

"I thought he played better and ran his best after that stretch last game and he looked good today,'' Phillips said. "More and more, I think we'll see the Marion Barber that we know and love.''
