Out Of The Chute: Titans at Cowboys

Every week during the season, we’ll scout out the Cowboys next opponent. This week, that opponent is the Tennessee Titans.

The Opponent: The Tennessee Titans, aka the Houston Oilers, aka Chris Johnson just beat your fantasy team singlehandedly.

Record: 2-2

The Line: Cowboys by 6.5. The Cowboys are 0-2 in games in which they are not favored. So maybe they should just play Houston on the road every week.

Last Game: A crippling 26-20 loss to Denver in which Kyle Orton treated the Titans’ secondary like it wasn’t even there. Chris Johnson also saw his streak of consecutive 100-yard games snapped with a pedestrian 53-yard effort (he also fumbled once). It appears as if the Titans are just as wildly inconsistent as they were a season ago.

The Coach: Jeff Fisher. And Fisher’s sporting the full beard this year! GRRRRR! He looks like a championship bass fisherman now.
The Offense: Vince Young made the Pro Bowl as the 93rd alternate last year. But he’s still a work in progress, and I suspect that he’ll never really turn out to be a finished product. He’ll have monster games against the likes of Arizona. Then a team like Pittsburgh will get in his head, force him into terrible throws, and send him back to square one. I think that’s just how’s he’s gonna be his whole career: good enough at times to tease you, but ultimately never good enough to matter. Oh, and his receivers are horrendous.

The Defense: This team still hasn’t gotten over losing Albert Haynesworth, which is probably why everyone thought they were going to trade to get him back before the season began. You can pass on this team quite effectively. This would be a good week for Roy Williams to show that game of his against Houston wasn’t a fluke (NOTE: It was a fluke).

Key Matchup: DeMarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer vs. CJ2K. Chris Johnson thrives on getting past end pursuit and taking it to the house, so the Cowboys’ two pass rushing specialists will have to stay home on occasion to make sure he doesn’t bust a long one. Should be a fun game.
