Newly Paid Scandrick Will Remain In The Slot

Orlando Scandrick is a lot wealthier than he was a week ago, but a starting role on defense continues to elude him--for now, anyway.

A week ago, Scandrick was rewarded for an impressive training camp with a five-year, $26 million contract extension. Meanwhile, both starting cornerbacks, Terence Newman and Mike Jenkins, have missed the entire preseason and most of training camp with injuries (Newman’s dealing with a hamstring injury, Jenkins with a stinger).

So Scandrick had a golden opportunity this preseason, and really, he’s done all he could to take advantage of it.

According to head coach Jason Garrett though, unless Jenkins and/or Newman is unable to return in time, Scandrick will not start in the regular season opener against the Jets.

We like the starting corners we have,” Garrett said, per the San Antonio Express-News. “We like Orlando's role.”
