A year ago, most experts had the Dallas Cowboys going after a defensive lineman in the first round of the draft. They went with guard Zack Martin instead, and held off on the defensive line help until Round 2, when they got defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence out of Boise State.

This year, many experts are once again anticipating the Cowboys addressing the defensive front in the first. According to NFL Network draft guru Mike Mayock, if Kentucky defensive end Alvin “Bud” Dupree is around when Dallas picks at No. 27, he could be a good fit opposite Lawrence.

“At the end of the first round, I think Dante Fowler, Randy Gregory and Shane Ray will all be gone,” Mayock said this week, per the Dallas Morning News. “There’s potential of Vic Beasley from Clemson and Bud Dupree from Kentucky to be there.

“Dupree is very interesting because he’s 30-plus pounds bigger than Beasley. He has the ability to set a more physical edge than Beasley and is a nice pass-rush compliment. Bud Dupree would make some sense there, I believe.”
